Woodcarving

Activity Number: 9557

Location: SUNNYSIDEPLGD – Multi Purpose Room at SUNNYSIDE PLGD

Experience the satisfaction of shaping wood while learning traditional woodcarving techniques. You’ll begin by carving a simple low relief project that’s designed to teach you the fundamental skills you’ll need to carve more complex projects. After completing that project, you may carve a second relief carving of your own design, choose from several patterns available, or carve a 3 dimensional sculptural piece. The second carving could be a mask, a figure (animal or human), a carved sign or something utilitarian, such as a spoon or wooden bowl. There is a studio fee of $40 due to the instructor on the first day of class. This fee includes materials for the beginning projects as well as the use of carving tools during class time. Continuing students are welcome to develop more complex projects; $40 studio fee covers the use of carving tools during class time and some materials. There will be wood available for purchase for students who want to carve a larger piece.

With 20+ years as a professional woodworker, instructor Mike Bray knows scores of tricks and techniques for working safely and accurately in small spaces.
