Randall Clay Club
There's nothing like the tactile nature of clay to stimulate a child's imagination and creativity. Participants in the Randall Clay Club will tackle a variety of fun projects to address both sculptural and functional concerns. Students will practice basic clay building skills with projects such as self portraits, animals and a set of cups for the whole family. Coil, slab and pinch
methods, plus a wide range of decoration techniques win colors, glazes and
textures will be covered. While the instructor will facilitate a safe and
supportive learning environment, the projects are designed for the club cubs to

ART
Artists' Workshop
This class is a melding of concrete skills and artistic exploration. Students are introduced to the tools and steps involved in a variety of creative processes, such as printmaking, painting, sculpting, etc. From that basic understanding, students are encouraged to find their own expression through the medium. Students explore boundaries and push materieals to obtain desired results. Projects are then finished with creative resolutions. For example, prints become books or scrolls; collages become puppets; relief sculptures become shadow boxes. Instructor: Amy Graham

WOODWORKING
Kids' Woodworking
Kids' Woodworking studens are excited to use equipment and tools in our well-equiped woodshop. They create their own projects from raw materials. Kids build skills, such as how to safely use tools and apply their school mathematics in a practical way. They discover the importance of taking time to measure accurately. They will practice their skills with an inch ruler; learn how to get precise lines using squares, and clamp their wood for cutting with hand saws. They will learn the difference between a back saw and a cross-cut saw, a band saw and a coping saw. Students will learn how to use hand tools prior to using power tools. Working in a fun and supportive atmosphere, students also practice problem solving "mistakes" so they can successfully complete their projects. Instructor: Jill Cunninghis

If I Had A Hammer...Afterschool Furniture Making
Students will gain both general woodworking and design skills by making a small
piece of furniture with their own two hands. The class will begin with a
one-day project making a tool that the kids will use for the remainder of the
session. The remaining classes will introduce and practice skills
associated with furniture making: design, material selection, shop safety,
building, assembly, attention to detail, and finishing technques. We will
learn to use measuring devices, handsaws, clamps, power drills, the drill press
and band saw. Creativity, fun, teamwork and accomplishment will be equally
encouraged throughout the building process. Students will leave the class
with skills and a piece of furniture that they will be able to use for a
lifetime. Instructor: Alexis Moran.
