Clay Play

Explore clay with eyes, hands and tools in a class for our youngest clay artists and their grown-ups.  Make simple projects like clay pizzas and handprints.  Work will be decorated with colorful underglazes, given a preliminary firing and glazed.  Glaze is a glassy coating that intensifies underglaze colors.  The ware is then low-fired, known as earthenware, which presents bright, intense colors.  Make projects you will treasure for years!  Registration fee for this class includes one child and one adult.  Register for this class using the child's name.

This is an excellent class for both parents and their young children.  Basic hand-built pottery and hand-modeled animal sculpture can be made, as well as potter's wheel work, with the guidance of the instructor.  There is also ample time to explore clay with projects of your own choosing.  Registration fee for this class includes one child and one adult.  Class should be registered using the child's name.  Instructor:  Marguerite Weil

ART

Sensory Exploration for Toddlers

This class provides toddlers sensory experiences that will help them further discover their world.  This class also helps parents understand the need for sensory integration for their very young children.  Sessons will include hands-on, messy, manipulative activities where toddlers will have freedom to explore various materials.  Short articles and explanations of the correlation between sensory experiences and brain development will be provided.  Each week, children will have the opportunity to splash, squish, mold and play together.  The goal of this class is not to create finished projects, but to provide unique, alternate sensory experiences for toddlers, and spread knowledge to their caregivers.  Registration fee for this class includes one child and one adult.  Register for class using the child's name.  Instructor:  Sormeh Kafi

Little Artists

Explore art as an extension of play while learning new skills:  cutting, ripping, stamping, painting, gluing, rubbing, folding and poking.  Young kids love art, especially when they dive into the process of creating art and experience the tactile feel of the materials.  This hands-on class is as fun for the accompanying adults as it is for the kids.  Registration fee for this class includes one child and one adult.  Register for the class using the child's name.

Kids' Critter Crafts

combine art making and learning about animals!  Get a close-up look at the animal of the week from the museum's animal exhibit while learning simple facts about them.  Then do an art project inspired by the animals and how they live.  This hands-on class is as fun for the accompanying adults as it is for the kids.  Registration fee for this class includes one child and one adult.  Register for the class using the child's name.  Instructor:  Amy Graham

Parent/Child Gardening

Explore the world of winter gardening through hands-on experiences with soil, plants, water and the arts.  Discover the wonders of seeds, growing plants and plant care in the greenhouse and our outdoor garden beds.  We will introduce you to some of our favorite pollinators - honeybees and hummingbirds.  As we investigate the world of plants, you will also learn about watercolor and basic printmaking, combining scienctific observation with art.  Simple science and art projects lead to great discoveries about plants and everyone's artistic talents.  Registration fee for this class includes one child and one adult.  Register for class using the child's name.  Instructor:  Devin Taylor
